Carbon Battens
designed by Robert Reisinger

Our old carbon battens had only one advantage: they were lighter then the aluminium battens

The new carbon battens have a different function:  they are much stiffer, still weighting as the aluminium battens.

The first 6 battens from the keel are made in carbon tubes with an outside diameter of 12 mm.
The battens 7 to 11 are in carbon with an outside diameter of 10 mm.

The advantages of these battens on a competition hang glider become evident with a very low Sprog setting at full VG:

  • The glider is more pitch stable

  • The bar pressure remains positive at high speed with full VG.

For example, with alu battens + full VG + a low Sprog setting the bar pressure goes light to “0” (Zero) at ±80km/h, which is the absolute limit.
Using the new carbon battens, in the same configuration, the bar pressure goes light, close to “0” (Zero) at ±110km/h.

It is the first time ever that carbon battens of these dimensions (12mm!) are used in production on a flex wing but, in our opinion, the advantages are so evident they will soon become an industry standard.

The new battens plus the new frame geometry and the fine tuning of the already good sail, makes this glider again hard to beat...

High Speed Airfoil (Profiler)
Optimized airfoil on the leading edge nose profil radius

Manfred has said, " This is the best airfoil that I have ever designed."

The difference of the airfoil is namely the front section of it.
By creating a more aerodynamic airfoil the performance of the Laminar has been improved especially at higher speed.
At slower speeds and in climb the Zero7 retains it's, "top of the stack performance".
Part of the secret is revealed in the picture.

MR Carbon Speed bar

The "strange" speedbar shape of Manfred is in production and available for everybody.
You can use it on every glider that has the Wills Wing fittings and of course on every Laminar competition A-frame.
(The length of the speedbar is the same as the carbon speedbar of WW)
