3 times World Champion in a row with Manfred Ruhmer
1999     2001     2003

The model 2004 is at its 7th evolution grade and therefore we decided to call this model the "Laminar O7".
The name 07 is also a small joke which was made by our German sail maker Markus Pause.
When he made the sail, with which Manfred won the Worlds, he attached a small sticker on the sail on which he wrote “007”
(meaning James Bond the unbeatable like Manfred who no one is able to beat)

Hall of Fame

In the year 2003 Manfred Ruhmer with his Laminar has won for the 3rd time in a row the Worlds Championship as well in 2004 the European Championship !

Description

Since the first apparition of the Laminar in 1994, there have been several evolution grades, all wanted by our big Champion Manfred

For who does not recall, Manfred is not only the best pilot in the world but he also is the developer of ALL our ICARO hang glider models. .

We also decided to change the initials which characterize the size of our hang gliders Laminar.

The old numbering could only bring confusion to the wing size.
Therefore Manfred decided to coincide the exact sail surface in sqm with the new initials.
This is the result:

The Laminar 07 is available in 4 different sizes:

New Old
13.3 MR 12
13.7 MR 13
14.2 MR 4.2
14.8 MR 14

Here follow the novelties of the 2004 model Laminar O7:

New: Twist Tips
This new system allows the outer swivel tips (that support the battens nr. 10 and 11) to move in contraposition,
also when the sail touches the tips, especially with ½ till full VG on.

Till now the construction did not allow the sail to move in this VG configuration.

Thanks to the new construction the tips are now directly connected to each other with a wire, and this allows the sail to move.
Of  course the handling is better with the VG ½ or completely on.
The tip compensator remains the same.

Sail tension
Some changes on the sail tension with different internal reinforcement and design of the leading edge tubes

New x-bar/leading edge junction
The x-bar/leading edge junction is made in one piece (till now there were 2 plates).

This is aesthetically much nicer. But more important; it is lighter and gives a better thin profile at full VG on this part of the leading edge.

Better VG
New lighter pulleys and one pulley more which make it easier to pull the VG.
In addition there is a special formed tube in the back part of the keel pocket which protects the VG.

With the Bainbridge sail, the VG range is a bit larger.
This gives a better performance with VG completely on
.

New batten ends
The spring system that we used till now has been replaced by the "click-system" from Airborne.

Advantage of this new system: more comfortable, light weight and easier to tension the battens.

New colour pattern
Seen that the colour pattern of the previous Laminar MR has been copied by other hang glider brands, we decided to change it again in order to differentiate us from the other hang gliders.
Our "Art Director" Ignazio has developed and chosen 12 new colour combinations which are really very nice

The above indicated modifications helped Manfred and Robert a lot to win the first and second place of the World Championships in Brasilia.
We are proud to say that at 3 months' distance these innovations are already available on the serial production

Versions

The standard model comes with our special Dacron sail called Square.
This model has our normal A-frame with profiled downtubes with rubber like the aerosafe type and a round speed bar.
We recommend this hang glider for the “normal” pilots who wish to fly a pleasant kingpostless glider with excellent performances.

For the competition pilot we suggest the following

Competition Options:

  • Competition aluminium A-frame with MR carbon Speedbar and profiled aluminium downtubes

  • Competition full carbon A-frame with MR carbon Speedbar and ergonomic carbon downtubes

  • Bainbridge sail (Mylar)
    • we recommend this sail ONLY for the pilots who make competitions
    • we don't give any guaranty on the duration of this material !

  • Carbon battens

  • Carbon insert on the leading edge, it is 2,5 m long and ±20 cm wide.
It goes in the leading edge and it prevents
him from deformation while flying at high speed

  • High Speed Airfoil (Profiler)
Frame
  • The frame is entirely made out of the best tubes available, produced in aluminium alloy 7075
  • The swivel tips support five battens, meaning that the whole outer trailing edge is supported and, therefore, the glider is more stable.

  • The bigger swivel tip (Sprog) has a compensator that makes it change its position slightly in flight, automatically, according to the VG setting.

  • The smaller swivel tip also has its own compensator;
This tip has a larger movement range in flight. It is connected with a cable and a pulley to the central part of the cross bar.
When the VG is on, the tip lowers and when it is off, it rises.
This optimizes your glide and safety features in flight. This happens automatically when you pull your VG on or off.

The Zero7 has an excellent handling its performance is better and it is very safe; in other words, we offer you a high-tech, high-performance glider that is as safe as it can be, according to technology nowadays.

We offer special prices to the competition pilots according to their skill.

If you are a TOP pilot and would like to know more about this offer, please contact us at staff@icaro2000.com
