About the name ICE

For years, we have been in contact with a friend of ours, the engineer Ralph Chester, who was formerly a pilot in the Royal Air Force.

Ralph has a company, Comunica, that manufactures state-of-the-art electronic systems for radio communications.

We have invited Comunica, with their 25 years experience making leading helmet and headset electronics for sport and professional aircraft, to design a new communications range, of the very highest quality, to complement our family of sport and professional flying helmets:

“ICE” = Icaro Comunica Electronics…..

The ICE design philosophy is simple:

To select the world’s very best components (ear defence, microphones, earphones, controls, cables and connectors, radios etc) to build your equipment, with cost a secondary consideration.
To give you the highest possible levels of comfort, safety, ease-of-use and long life of your communications equipment.

Radio bands

All ICE headsets are suitable for 2 meter or aviation band radios.

Headsets fixed on the helmet

All ICE headsets can be fixed on every helmet with the special Peltor system.
The advantages of wearing a headset fixed to the helmet:
  • the ear cups can be flipped upwards or aside quickly and easily

  • on the ground you can thus hear normally

  • in the air you can ventilate your ears whenever you like

Headsets with arch

For closed cockpits we recommend the headsets with a confortble arch.

Attention:   never use headsets under helmets. They are not certified in this way and your head would no longer be protected!

Ear cups   Lite & Peltor Optime

The caracteristic of all our ear cups is the "Carbon Optik" look, our special decal since years. It looks even better then real carbon fibers. It's a technology "Made in Italy"

We use, except for the Lite models, only the finest Peltor-brand “OPTIME” ear defence cups for the very highest noise-exclusion.

The ICE detail design takes great care to preserve their special performance intact.

Microphone and the Boom

One of (3) world top performance noise-cancelling microphones can be chosen:
  • The miniature Knowles NR ELECTRET, best for most flying.

  • The Knowles WP ELECTRET, submersible, for floatplanes.

  • The AKG DYNAMIC for special applications.

One of (2) high performance mic windshields can be chosen, each machined to the ideal shape, from “reticulated” foam:
  • T“BMUFF”, the large windshield for open aircraft and windy applications.

  • “SMUFF”, the neat small windshield for closed cockpits.

The microphone stainless steel/brass bendy booms are the top MILITARY type

Loudspeakers

The earphone loudspeakers are high fidelity mylar units.

Volume control

The volume control is a tough MILITARY type.

All ICE headsets are supplied with a volume control system except the model Lite.

Pilot and passenger can adjust the volume of their earphones independently, permitting perfect personalization and maximum flying comfort.

ANR (active noise reduction)

We use the best modules from Headsetsinc.

Available only on the ICE OP 2 models with aviation electronics.

Icaro is also the talian representative for all Headsetsinc products

Radio cables

The highest quality ICOM radio cables and SIGTRONIX headset cables are used.

Radio connectors

The most used are:
  • 2 meter band radio: Kenwood & Icom.
  • General Aviation: TWIN-JACKS.
  • Lynx
  • “NEXUS, USNATO” SINGLE JACKS (MIL or PELTOR pinout)
  • Special connectors on request
Today there are so many types of radio equipment on the market that we are unable to continuously stock all headsets with the suitable radio connector.
For this reason, please allow us 2-3 weeks delivery time so that we can send you the headset with the right radio connector.
